Guacamole on toast with sliced cucumber
Dear reader,
This traditional guacamole recipe is just perfect for everything, for breakfast on toast, as a dip at your dinner party or for movie night….anytime
We have made this recipes so many times and we wouldn’t change a thing, that’s how much we like this recipe. It’s not to spicy, the lime doesn’t overpower the avocado, just the perfect amount of salt, the ingredients are perfectly balanced. This recipe it’s super easy to make and quick just under 10 minutes. There are so many ways to use this guacamole recipe, the best one for me is of course on toast, I know pretty basic but i love it and i like to add cucumber slices on top for the refreshing taste and take the edge a little bit if i dropped to much chilli. However my partner likes to have a ginormous bowl of tortilla chips with his guacamole every movie night ( i should probably buy him a sombrero for his chips 🤣)
WHERE DOES GUACAMOLE COME FROM?
Avocados were first cultivated in South Central Mexico around 10,000 years ago. In the early 1900s, avocados frequently went by the name alligator pear.
Guacamole has increased avocado sales in the U.S., especially on Super Bowl Sunday and Cinco de Mayo. The rising consumption of guacamole is most likely due to the U.S. government lifting a ban on avocado imports in the 1990s and the growth of the U.S. Latino population. Guacamole dip is traditionally made by mashing ripe avocados and sea salt with a molcajete y tejolote (mortar and pestle). Recipes often call for lime juice, cilantro, and jalapeños. Some non-traditional recipes may call for sour cream, tomatoes, basil, or peas. Source Wikipedia
How to choose the perfect avocado for guacamole?
Ripe avocados are essential for a successful guacamole recipe, if the avocados aren’t ripe you wouldn’t be able to mash them with a mortar and pestle , so here is how to pick the perfect ones:
- Gently squeeze the avocado, don’t use your fingertips use your palm
- A perfectly ripe avocado should yield/give slightly when you press it
- Do this test in several places to be sure it’s the perfect one
- It shouldn’t be soft and mushy but also shouldn’t be firm either
