How to make smooth hummus recipe from scratch

This is our favorite hummus recipe! We have only one trick for a creamy and smooth hummus. For this reason we are confident that tastes much better than store bought one.

We don’t use chickpeas (garbanzo beans), our secret Butter Beans. These cream-colored beans have a similarly rich consistency with butter. Therefore we think are a better choice  for a creamier, smoother and thicker hummus.

What is hummus and where the recipe originated?

Technically “Hummus” comes from the Arabic word ḥummuṣ meaning “chickpeas”. However we found that butter beans are a better choice. We let you decide after you try our recipe. The earliest known written recipes for a dish resembling hummus bi tahina are recorded in cookbooks written in Cairo in the 13th century. A cold purée of chickpeas with vinegar and pickled lemons with herbs, spices, and oil, but no tahini or garlic.  It is based on puréed chickpeas and tahini, and acidulated with vinegar (though not lemon). But it also contains many spices, herbs, and nuts, and no garlic. It is also served by rolling it out and letting it sit overnight. Which presumably gives it a very different texture from hummus bi tahina. (Source wiki)

Interesting fact about butter beans and why you will love this hummus recipe

Lima bean is also known as “butterbeans” due to taste of cooked beans which resembles butter. Lima bean is rich source of dietary fibers, proteins, vitamins of the B group and minerals such as molybdenum, magnesium, manganese and iron. A large part of our diet is made up of carbohydrates, such as potatoes, bread and pasta, which help to boost your energy levels. However, a great, healthy source of carbohydrates are butter beans.

Another key ingredient for a rich smooth hummus recipe, Tahini or tahina is a condiment made from toasted ground hulled sesame. It is served by itself or as a major ingredient in hummus, baba ghanoush, and halva. Tahini is used in the cuisines of the Levant and Eastern Mediterranean, the South Caucasus, as well as parts of North Africa.
